Redman Confirms An Extended Version Of ‘Da Rockwilder’ Does Exist
During his visit to Fresh Pair with Just Blaze and Katty Customs, Redman addressed the rumors behind the extended version after Blaze shared how he first heard the song and couldn’t understand why the track ended so abruptly when the final version was released.
According to Blaze, he ended up hearing the longer version at a meeting which brought a smile to Redman’s face as if he were happy the rumors were actually proved to be true.
“First off, I want to thank you for clearing 20 to 25 years of history of debating like, was there a longer version of ‘Da Rockwilder’ and I told them it was,” Redman said.

“Da Rockwilder” was featured on Method Man and Redman’s 1999 debut studio album Blackout! and was produced by Dana “Rockwilder” Stinson, who was also a close friend to Red. The song became an instant Hip Hop classic and turned heads because of its quick runtime of two minutes and 17 seconds.
In an interview with Complex in 2011, Meth gave a reason as to why the song was so short. According to the Wu-Tang Clan member, Red wasn’t feeling the production.
“Red didn’t like the beat, that’s why the record’s so short,” Method Man said. “When I first heard it, I was like, ‘Fuck that!’ Wrote my verse right there and spit on it and I was like, ‘You know what? We gon’ call this shit ‘Rockwilder’ after you, my n-gga.’ That’s how much I love this beat.”
Tical also revealed that almost everyone was looking to acquire that beat and claimed it led the way for Rockwilder to work with JAY-Z, Destiny’s Child and more.
Redman supported Meth’s claim in an interview with HipHopDX in 2011 where he admitted he didn’t like the production and advised the song should be shorter to allow people to want more.
“They don’t remember that we did two verses to ‘Da Rockwilder,’” Red said at the time. “We did do two verses, but it didn’t sound right. So I said, ‘Let’s cut it short’ … it wouldn’t have been like it was if it wasn’t so short. Makes you wanna fiend for more.”
