Brooklyn Bowl to Open Philadelphia Location Next to Fillmore

Shapiro discovered the location, a built out bowling alley and bar adjacent to the Fillmore, while traveling to Philadelphia with his son for a Philadelphia Flyers game in 2017.

After seeing Bowl favorites Joe Russo’s Almost Dead was booked to play the Fillmore that same night, Shapiro linked up CID Entertainment founder Dan Berkowitz, dropped off his son for a sleepover and headed to Fishtown. Before the show started, Shapiro stuck his head into the neighboring bowling alley, noticed the place was dead — “they were trying to do some college football ladies night like they were a bar in Madison, Wisconsin or something,” Shapiro says, and headed to back to show where he ran into Berkowitz and his wife Deanna.

“When they asked where I went, I told them ‘I just found a new location for the next Brooklyn Bowl.'” he explained.

Shapiro then rang up Live Nation’s regional president  for Philadelphia Geoff  Gordon while he was vacationing in Jamaica and together the men came up with a basic plan for the space.

Brooklyn Bowl Philadelphia will hit the ground running in November with a multi-genre initial lineup of more than 30 shows including Philly’s own DJ Questlove, Grammy-nominated Americana artist Yola, New Orleans legends Dirty Dozen Brass Band, iconic NYC rappers Talib Kweli & Rakim, rising country-pop star Dylan Scott, avant-rock trio The Slip, eclectic international sounds from Antibalas, Red Baraat, L’Impératrice, jam staples Twiddle, Spafford and Keller Williams with a heavy dose of funk-soul from Soulive, Lettuce, Turkuaz and The Greyboy All Star and many more to come.

“As part of our ongoing commitment to the City of Philadelphia and the revitalization of iconic Fishtown, we are excited to partner with Peter Shapiro and bring the Brooklyn Bowl to Philadelphia,” says Gordon. “The Brooklyn Bowl completes a full-campus entertainment district in Fishtown with the Fillmore, Foundry, Punch Line Philly, Philadelphia Distilling, and the new Other Half Brewery. We look forward to the great shows, artists, and performers coming to Brooklyn Bowl Philly and can’t wait for the shows to begin.”

Chad Peterson will serve as Philadelphia’s general manager supported by director of operations Chelsea Johnson and director of sales and events Maggie Bond. Lucas Sacks and Paul Bacher of the Brooklyn Bowl will spearhead the venue’s concert bookings, working closely with Molly Warren and Kristen Nagy in the Live Nation Philadelphia office. Brooklyn Bowl Philadelphia is a partnership between Brooklyn Bowl and Live Nation.

“With each Brooklyn Bowl venue, we’re excited to see our audiences take in the experience,” says Brooklyn Bowl  co-founder Charley Ryan. “Now that we can gather again, it’s particularly meaningful. With great music, bowling, bars, and food, the Bowl provides the unforgettable social connections you look for in an evening out.”

Tickets for the inaugural series of shows will go on sale Sept. 24 at 12 p.m. right here.
